The first Gary Carter poem inspired by his relationship with Susan McKenna List and her work. Carter 'interviewed' List about the difficulties of changing environments and her plein air work and gifted this poem to her as a birthday surprise. This poem began their now lasting collaboration of Carter poems for specific List paintings as he was inspired by and sought to understand her process and paintings.
